The following items are unavailable for play in Adventurers League based on the updated criteria provided by the official D&D Discord server.

Availability Options

Availability Meaning
Available The item is available for AL play.
Possibly Unavailable The item may be available for AL play. See the Reason definitions for additional details.
Unavailable The item is not available for AL play.
Story Item The item is not available for AL play, except as a Story Item. See Reason definitions for additional details.
Campaign Restricted The item is only available in specific campaigns.
Under Review We are attempting to figure out which Availability option applies to the item.

Unavailable items may become Story Items if they are required to complete the adventure.

Magic Items

Reasons/Criteria

Unavailable Items

ID Details
U-Third-Party Third party magic items
U-Artifact Artifacts.
U-Evil Has an evil alignment, changes a character to evil, or needs them to do an evil act to obtain it (e.g. attack a friendly NPC).
U-Harm PC Dictates damage, a penalty, or loss of autonomy to fellow characters.
U-Love Love charms.
U-Permanent-Mechanical Has permanent mechanical or ability score effects.
U-Misprint Obvious or noted (errata, designer, AL admin).
U-Unspecified DM Choice Has an unspecified (by encounter or other text) DM choice or roll for which cards, patches, skills, runes, spell levels, or other effect or power (see “Available Exceptions”).
U-Unspecified Enspelled Is an Enspelled item without textspecified spell named.
U-Obliterate Non-scroll items that obliterate matter (not themselves).
U-Part Part of an item. Don’t use “Magic Item Replacement.”
U-Plot-Device Item (“Magic Item Replacement”), wish, Boon, or magic effect used only by storyspecific NPCs, affects the adventure’s story-specific creatures, or is bound to its locations or events.
U-Sentient-Spellcaster Sentient item who, themself, can spellcast.
U-Vehicle Adventure-granted magic vehicles and navigation tools.
U-Disruptive Item is otherwise disruptive (DMs use ALDMG, “Disruptions” for temporary removal).
