Rules

Generally speaking, Enspelled Items are currently limited in Adventurers League play.

ALPG 15.3 (page 2):

UNAVAILABLE MAGIC ITEMS […]

Non-consumable items without specified spells named in their description or other text. Unspecified Enspelled items, Ring of Spell Storing, Spell Gem.

We are awaiting updated DC guidelines to know whether Enspelled items can be rewarded from DC adventures.

In addition, since Enspelled Items are currently not rewarded in any adventures, they are not available through 🏆Service Awards either.

These rules are retroactive.

Can I Craft Enspelled Items?

No.

Enspelled items are only valid if the spell is specified as part of the adventure text. When you craft an item, you’re not “specifying” the spell. You may think “well, I’m choosing the spell when I craft it”. Nope, not good enough.

Can DC Authors Include Enspelled Items In Their DC Adventures?

No.

See 🪄DC Guidelines for Enspelled Items for more information.

The Reason

When they were introduced in the new DMG, it was thought that higher-level versions of the items may be too over-powered. For example, 6 free castings of Mind Blank at the start of an adventure is thought to be too broken. So for now, the limit has been put in place.
